Our Programs

Environmental Conservation

Environmental conservation is basically the practice of us humans to save the environment from collapsing, such as loss of species, ecosystems due to pollution and human activities.

Environmental conservation is necessary for many reasons including the protection of the ozone layer, the sustainability of food chains for animals and humans, the preservation of drinking water and the proper use of non-renewable resources.

As GCANIM, we do sensitization of communities on environmental conservation and we also go an extra step to provide tree seedlings to communities so to be planted to to overcome the problem of environmental degradation and deforestation in some areas.

The Clean-Up Activity

Clean Up activities are typically 'clean ups' removing rubbish from local waterways, wetlands, beaches, parks, forests, mountains, or bush lands, however many other types of activities can be included as part of Clean Up the World such as tree planting, environmental restoration or awareness raising. We as an organization, we engage in this so that we can be rest assured that our people live in lean environments free from items that may lead to easy spread of diseases. Our slogan for this activity is, ''A happy mind in a clean environment''.

Young mother's Group

"Young Mother’s Group provides a judgement free space for pregnant and parenting young mothers to share ideas, build positive peer relationships, teach each other, ask for support and make it known that parenting is a learning process for everyone.

We as God can International Ministries focus on making the structure of the group evolve with the mothers and strive to keep the curriculum and program offering in line with what is relevant to their lives, in real time.

GCANIM officials reach to the group of mothers, share a meal and childcare provided by volunteers. The programs collaborate with early childhood providers, such as family support officials from government, to bring child development expertise to the mothers.

Guest speakers and topics are initiated by the needs and interest of the mothers as well as needs identified by our organization officials in field.

Children's  & Women Ministry

The scriptural mandate for these ministries is: “Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widows” (Isaiah 1:17)

Children’s Ministry

This is the essence of our mission at God can International Ministries. Under this program we assist orphans and vulnerable children. We have registered children under our care and offer them primarily much needed emotional care. So many of our children have suffered the trauma of losing their parents due to HIV/AIDS and/or of living in extreme poverty, and we seek to alleviate their pain and provide emotional healing by providing a safe, loving place where these children are free to be kids again.

Foster Care:
Most orphaned children with family ties are supported at their relative’s homes. GCANIM provides education support, medical attention, school uniforms and scholastic materials to these children. Without such help these less-privileged children would have no access to education and medical care.

At GCANIM, we really make the effort to make sure each child feels loved and cared for and this has cared over to children’s family where each teacher leads a small group of 10 to 12 children.  Usually we start with some group work where the children have the chance to share something about their week or to play a game together.  Then the Word of God is shared and usually we end with working on a memory verse of applying the Word to our lives.  The same teacher leads the same small group every week.

The children in children’s Ministry are not all Christians, some of them come other religious sects and many from broken homes, go to different schools and we only see them on days of ministry activities.  It is one way for our organization  to reach out and love those in the community around us. Taking care of children irrespective of their backgrounds is a very strong tool in restoring hope of people and majorly a way of practically sharing the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus.

Women’s Ministry

The Women ministry is an initiative of God can International Ministries that is made up of HIV-positive widows, grandmothers, and guardians. In social and economic terms, HIV/AIDS epidemic hits women hardest.

When AIDS cases in women first started getting attention, some studies found that after being diagnosed women were not living as long as affected men were. It soon became clear that the epidemic was striking women harder than men. They weren’t sure whether women were less responsive to treatment, but it was later concluded that the reason for shorter survival terms was likely socio-economic. Women with AIDS were more likely to be poor, with less access to help, and thus less likely to get prompt medical attention. They were also less likely to get a definitive diagnosis of HIV disease.

The vulnerability of rural poor women continues to increase. It is women who shoulder the burden of caring for the sick and the dying. The necessity of caring for their sick diverts their energies from economic production that would provide income, causing food insecurity, decline in nutrition, lack of money to buy medicine, and thus health decline. In Uganda many more women living with HIV/AIDS than men head households. These women most often cannot meet all the basic needs of the families such as medical care, food, clothing, paying school fees and other welfare needs.

The death of a husband often leaves women without access to sufficient resources to provide for their families. Many times, these women are HIV-positive themselves and may lack access to basic healthcare at the same time that their health needs prevent them from providing adequate care to their children.

This ministry to Women is under a Christian organization, but works with all people regardless of their faith or religious affiliation.

The project is aimed at equipping women with lifetime skills through training in various aspects, including art and crafts and setting up a business. God can International Ministries has over 20 registered widows who are in critical need of your help.

“So create awareness and take action,” support widows to strengthen their capacity building through implementation.

Your support will make a world of difference for these women and their children. Please consider a donation to the women project. Each donation of $120 will provide enough start-up capital for one woman to support her family with an income-generating small business.

Supporting Elderly

Here are just four ways that you can give back to your elders and enrich your own life as well.

  1. Volunteer in your community, even if it's unstructured.

  2. Spend time at a senior center or a care home.

  3. Support your elders by listening to them. You might learn a thing or two.

  4. Seniors love having fun.

An elderly person needs proper nutrition to stay healthy and enjoy a comfortable life. As GCANIM, we have a nutritionists or caregivers who go over a daily meal plan to know what foods best fit the old persons' lifestyle. Usually meals are prepared weekly so it is easier for the senior citizen to heat and eat a warm meal every day.

We usually take care of the elderly right from their own places of residence since we haven't yet constructed a place for them as an organization.

Farming

GCANIM works on Strengthening the institutional base of agriculture, removing identified distortions, facilitating trade, and enhancing resilience through climate-smart agriculture and low-cost irrigation systems which can help closing the potential-performance.

Uganda's main food crops have been plantains, cassava, sweet potatoes, millet, sorghum, corn, beans, and groundnuts. Major cash crops have been coffee, cotton, tea, cocoa, vanilla and tobacco.

Our team sensitizes the farmers on modern farming methods and sometimes also provide them with farming equipment, seeds and pesticides to spray their crops.

Child Education

The GCANIM family project covers some of the school fees & school requirements for some children living in poor families, there are three school terms in one year, pupils are required to pay school fees and other fees every term. Paying school fees is beyond many families, especially where they have a lot of children. So we choose to stand with the education requirements of the needy children hence ensuring a great future for them.

HIV Virus in Uganda

AIDS is a leading cause of death in Uganda, killing more than 200 people a day, devastating the 25-40 year-old segment of the population, and leaving behind more than 2.4 million orphans since the epidemic’s onset. 60% of all people living with HIV/AIDS in the country are women. In Uganda today, 63% of all orphans are living without both natural parents.

Uganda was one of the first nations on the African continent to implement policies and programs to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic, serving as a model for reversing this worldwide health crisis. Partnerships between government, non-governmental, and community-based organizations and the private sector have been vital to mitigating the impact of Uganda’s crisis.

In the last decade, Uganda has reduced HIV infection rates from 30% of the population in 1993 to 7% in 2007. However, without access to anti-retroviral drugs, this decline is due in part to the near certain mortality of people living with AIDS as much as it reflects the aggressive and effective campaign to curtail new infections. Uganda’s crisis is far from over. Continued vigilance to ensure a declining rate of infection is crucial even as Uganda struggles to provide care and comfort for the sick and secure the basic rights to food, shelter, medicine and education for its children. HIV/AIDS will continue to impact Uganda for generations to come.

Our Campaign Against HIV/AIDS

With no cure or vaccine in sight for the last 20 years, Prevention as a social vaccine is a very important area of focus in preventing the further spread of HIV/AIDS. The vast majority of Ugandan people do not have HIV/AIDS and we can still do much to ensure that they stay safe. Though Uganda’s HIV/AIDS prevalence rate has dropped from 30% to 6% this does not mean that we can relax our efforts in interventions to scale down the prevalence rate.

There are many different things God can International Ministries does in our efforts to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS:

  • Educating young people to understand how HIV/AIDS is spread and what we can do to protect ourselves. UNAIDS 2004 Epidemic report indicate young people ages 15-24 years old account for nearly half of the new HIV infections Worldwide. They are the largest youth generation in history and need a protective environment, and access to health and support services if they are to play their role in combating the epidemic

  • We encourage young people to change their sexual behaviors by “ABSTAINING” from premarital sex and encourage young married people to be faithful to their partners as the only possible way to avoid HIV infections. Jesus is Lord Ministries is currently distributing to students customized scholastic materials such as. books & pens with a message “ABSTAIN FROM PREMARITAL SEX.”

  • Working to make everyone aware of the plight of those living with HIV/AIDS and their families, and working hard to promote openness and compassion to break down the stigma and silence surrounding HIV/AIDS and further support AIDS Orphans

  • Encourage voluntary testing for all people to know their status. For those with negative tests, we encourage them to begin living responsible lives to avoid the HIV infection, and encourage those who test positive to begin ARV medication and live a positive life.

  •

EDUCATION IS KEY:

Research finds that sex education and counseling do not encourage promiscuity among young people. Failure to educate them, in fact, may be a death sentence.

  • Recent surveys in 17 countries on three continents found that more than half the adolescents surveyed could not name a single method of protecting themselves against HIV/AIDS.

  • In sub-Saharan Africa, half the teenage girls surveyed did not realize that a healthy-looking person might be living with HIV/AIDS.

  • Many young people do not see HIV/ AIDS as a personal threat. Almost two thirds of sexually active girls 15 to 19 in Haiti told researchers they ran no risk of infection.

  • Surveys show that even a few years of added schooling translate into more frequent condom use.

Education in decision-making and negotiation skills, especially from peers, helps teens to protect themselves from unwanted sexual relationships, exploitation and violence, and to ensure use of condoms when they are sexually active.

You can help in educating Young people about HIV/AIDS and how to avoid it, and help to support AIDS Orphans and people living with HIV/AIDS with your financial donation.

Prison and Hospital Outreaches

Matthew 25: 31-46:
31 “When the Son of Man comes as King and all the angels with him, he will sit on his royal throne, 32 and the people of all the nations will be gathered before him. Then he will divide them into two groups, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the righteous people on his right and the others on his left. 34 Then the King will say to the people on his right, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father! Come and possess the kingdom which has been prepared for you ever since the creation of the world. 35 I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you received me in your homes, 36 naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visited me.’

37 “The righteous will then answer him, ‘When, Lord, did we ever see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? 38 When did we ever see you a stranger and welcome you in our homes, or naked and clothe you? 39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?’ 40 The King will reply, ‘I tell you, whenever you did this for one of the least important of these members of my family, you did it for me!’

Prison Ministry

God can International Ministries is reaching out to the lost and hopeless in the prisons of Uganda (East Africa). The prisoners are in very poor conditions with no medical care and little food. The Evangelism team do take the life-transforming message of Jesus Christ to these men and women. Along with regular visits by our team we provide also physical help such as food and other help. Our goal is to see these prisoners become workers in the Kingdom of God and good citizens.

God can International Ministries has a full time team that goes out to the prisons, reaching several prisons. We see many prisoners get saved every month. We also see God moving with a mighty hand with miraculous healing and deliverance from demons. Many have been touched by the ministry and are now outside prison and doing well! Some prisons are completely saved (all have answered our altar calls)! We want to continue to reach out to these poor prisoners in the terrible, dangerous prisons in Uganda with life saving medical help and the life changing truth of the GOSPEL! Jesus came to seek and to save the lost!

Hospital Outreach

In our hospital ministry, we come up with a group Christians such as evangelists, intercessors and anyone willing to go and volunteer in the hospitals, and go and we teach the word of God and encourage and pray for the sick people. Added to that, some patients are in need of food stuffs such as sugar, bread, or drinks so we also provide for them because their relatives or care takers cannot afford to buy for them due to lack enough money to even clear the hospital bills.
